The Huffington Post - 19 Feb 2014 17:23
Black History Month CelebratedArtistic Director Roger Lee (photo: Bill Herbert) Philadelphia choreographer-dancer Roger Lee has been hoping to start a dance collective to celebrate Black History Month since he was a high school... student studying dance. A graduate of Drexel University, Lee is now fulfilling that long held dream with his first annual dance concert commemorating Black History Month. Roger Lee Dance will perform their first annual Black History Dance Celebration series at The Performance Garage in Philadelphia this month, featuring danceworks by seven choreographers. Last spring Lee's troupe performed a contemporary ballet with black history themes. "I did a piece about segregation, integration and civil rights and many audience members told me it really touched them and asking when we would be doing...

Panerai Introduces The "Eilean" Collection

Hypebeast - 19 Feb 2014 22:23
Panerai Introduces TheAs an homage to its nautical heritage - the brand released the first diving watch, the Radiomir 3646, during World War II - Panerai has created a brand new four-pack of instruments: the "Eilean"... collection. Taking its name from a 22m Bermudian ketch that was acquired by the company in 2007, the "Eilean" release includes a clock, barometer, thermometer, and hygrometer. Housed in corrosion-resistant AISI 316L stainless steel 14cm x 14cm square cushion-shaped cases - a nod to the restored navigational and timekeeping devices in the yacht - the instruments pair simple black dails with off-white markers while the thermometer also makes use of blue to denote sub-zero temperatures. Priced between $4,400 USD and $5,200 USD, the "Eilean" collection is now available to Panerai enthusiasts via online...

2014 Sports IllustratedKate Upton may not have landed on the main cover of the 2014 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, but the beloved model is indeed the subject of the highly anticipated publication's flagship editorial.... Dubbed "Zero Gravity," the piece sees the blonde bombshell in a Boeing 727 run by the Zero G Experience - a zero-gravity flight where weightlessness can be achieved by pulling the plane up to a 45-degree angle at an altitude of roughly 34,000 feet before being pushed into a descent. Check out James Macari's shots of the golden bikini-clad Upton above and check out a variety of looks at the shoot below. Style Blog: How people swear on Twitter

Washington Post - 19 Feb 2014 21:26
Despite every mother's exhortation to avoid posting things online you wouldn't want "out there" for everyone to see, Twitter users swear -- a lot. As in, even more than they do in real life. That's... according to a new study full of unprintable words by researchers at Ohio's Wright State University, which found that roughly one tweet of every 13 contains a curse word. That's not all: The researchers also found that Twitter users swear most on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, that men swear more than women (though we everyone swears more around their own gender) and that f-bombs are far and away Twitter's curse word of choice.

On Thursday, Peter never found his Starcatcher, J. Pierpont Finch failed to succeed in business without really trying and John Worthing never discovered the importance of being Earnest. In response to... a storm that dumped up to a foot of snow on the Washington region, nearly every theater in town canceled performances. The stages were dark, but behind the scenes, theater marketers, box-office staffers and even information technology workers were very much in motion, communicating the decision to shutter to ticket holders. Only one theater in town made the decision -- at noon Thursday -- that it was on with the show!

House Of Cards Recap: ChapterPhoto: Courtesy of Netflix. I'm watching the entire second season of Netflix's original political melodrama House of Cards instead of spending my weekend interacting with actual humans, and posting... one recap per day. Catch the recap for chapter 17 here. For this episode of House of Cards, the letter of the day is "A," which stands for "autoerotic asphyxiation." Then again, maybe that's not quite accurate. After all, when we open on Chinese billionaire Xander Feng, he's tied to a fireplace and in the throes of a reverse, double-barrel bisexual blowjob, someone else has put the bag over his head. We don't linger on Feng's peccadillos, however, and it feels a little weird to open on such a salacious red herring. Instead, we're immediately transported to 1860s Virginia, where a bunch of loony...

Bill O'Reilly dropped by "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and talked about his controversial Super Bowl Sunday interview with President Barack Obama. It was a ten-minute interview that has been pulled apart by the... media in the days since. O'Reilly described it as the toughest interview of his life. "I've never done anything more difficult, because you're up against the clock from day one," he told Kimmel. "From second one. And President Obama can do 20 minutes on your socks. I mean, the guy is very eloquent." With only ten minutes to get through the interview, O'Reilly said he had to keep interrupting the President in order to get his questions in. He conceded that it was obnoxious, but that's just what he does. The media has been all over the place with their analysis. Some called O'Reilly unprepared,...

Pharrell Gets In On ThePhoto: Courtesy of Columbia Records. Normally Pharrell Williams is the one starting the trends (see: Grammys hat). However this time, the super producer is the one hopping on board. Following in the... footsteps of contemporaries like Kanye West, Jay-Z, and Beyoncé, Pharrell is releasing a brand new album with very little warning at all. It's called G I R L, and it's due on March 3. Williams is coming off a banner year, which means his latest solo effort will be his most anticipated yet. Last month he took home four Grammy awards for his acclaimed work on Daft Punk's Random Access Memories, and on March 2 he'll be performing his hit single "Happy" at the Academy Awards. The song, which is featured on the Despicable Me soundtrack, is also up for an Oscar. With his album out the next day, a...

Marvel has debuted the first official trailer for "Guardians of the Galaxy," the upcoming sci-fi super-hero adventure starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, John C. Reilly and the voices of Bradley Cooper... (as Rocket Raccoon) and Vin Diesel (as Groot, an alien tree). The James Gunn film looks like one of Marvel's funniest features to date thanks to Pratt's comic timing and a geeky sensibility that knows just how to rock Blue Swede's "Hooked on a Feeling." The second of two 2014 Marvel blockbusters, following April's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," "Guardians of the Galaxy" arrives in theaters on Aug. 1. Meet The Babe Behind ArdencyWhen makeup brands choose a face to represent them, it's usually a familiar model or a classically beautiful, well-respected celebrity. Ardency Inn, though, is not your average makeup brand. This... beauty newcomer takes its inspiration from the downtown-NYC music scene, with high-quality makeup for both rock stars and the women who love them. It's beauty that encourages creativity, so basically, we're obsessed with it. (It doesn't hurt that makeup artist and R29 friend James Vincent is the head of artistry and education). And, as for the new face of this super-cool company? Meet Marial Maher, also known as indie pop artist Seasick Mama. "Frozen" has been charming critics and audiences all winter, but one conservative grandmother was less than taken by the Disney animated feature, which has grossed a reported $378.3 million... domestically. Kathryn Skaggs, author of the "A Well-Behaved Mormon Woman" blog, has penned a lengthy post blasting "Frozen" for what she described as the movie's "gay agenda to normalize homosexuality." Exactly what about the smash film rankled Skaggs (who claims to have seen, and enjoyed, "Frozen" three times with her grandchildren) remains a mystery. Still, she points to the countless tribute and parody versions of the movie's Academy Award-nominated theme song, "Let It Go," and writes: I could blatantly see that the homosexual agenda, to normalize the practice, was not simply an underlying message in...
