Florida Man Steals Truck WithMmm, mmm, trouble. It took a helicopter and a K-9 law-enforcement unit to catch an Orlando man who took control of a tractor-trailer filled with Campbell's Soup. He drove 30 miles with $75,000 worth... of canned goods before being arrested and charged with two counts of grand theft. The guy could learn a few things from the Nutella thieves: Rule No. 1: Steal something more delicious. Rule No. 2: Don't take the entire freaking truck. [Earlier, Sun-Sentinel via Gawker]

Gordon Ramsay Owes $75,000 in Overdue Bills

New York Mag - 9 Apr 2013 15:30
Gordon Ramsay Owes $75,000 inDon't smile. The Marks Paneth & Shore accounting firm is suing the chef for $75,000 in unpaid bills for consulting, accounting, and tax services. The company's been sending Ramsay invoices since 2010,... but he's never paid a dime. Considering he has a new TV show coming out and was the top-earning chef in 2012, this is despicable -- but exactly the kind of behavior we've come to expect from a world-class douche. Health Inspectors Really NeedThey've already got the gloves for the job. The Post's Steve Cuozzo forges a warpath today against the entire New York City Department of Health. The body's roving squad of punitive fine-happy... inspectors have mounted an epidemic of meal-ruining surprise dinnertime inspections -- even Mayor Bloomberg experienced salad interruptus last month at La Grenouille. But, Cuozzo argues, the DOH intrusions are an unnecessary nuisance, and the group isn't doing enough to protect the public from a "real risk." The problem is that while Cuozzo suggests inspectors spend less time ruining his dinner, it's beginning to sound like they should really be spending more time in kitchens -- doing something other than writing up graded reports. Maybe they should actually be working the line. Here's Cuozzo: I've...

She had to shave her head to prepare for the craniotomy, and returned to work... following the operation. It was then that -- allegedly -- Lupo's regional manager requested that she wear a wig while working. Lupo agreed, until she realized that the wig irritated her wound, so she stopped wearing it. This is where things get complicated: Lupo is claiming that Hooters severely cut back her hours as a result of her refusal to wear fake hair, forcing her to quit voluntarily. She's now suing the franchise in federal court for discrimination. A Hooters spokesman told the Huffington Post that the company "believes the lawsuit is without foundation." What's the Problem WithBushwick keeps on taking it. So, acclaimed Bushwick restaurant Roberta's posted a Craigslist ad six months ago looking for a few good, unpaid interns to come work in its urban garden, which supplies... produce for its kitchen. Workers would be compensated only with pizza in exchange for sixteen hours a week and a two-month commitment, during which time they'd be manning the beehives, tending to compost, building planters, maintaining hydroponic systems, and bam! -- the implicit heavy lifting and other assorted intimations of labor law violations in the job posting were enough, apparently, to ignite a hipster furor of the first order, not to mention a plague of stenciled font flyers that have gone up in the neighborhood calling out the restaurant. The flyers, which start off with a cheery "***...

Many hearts leaped into many throats when she announced that she was sick, but she put on a brave face and persevered.

Aria Reopens After GettingBack in action. Today, the swanky Perry Street restaurant and wine bar resumed service after five dark days. The Department of Health closed Aria on Thursday after finding mice and live roaches during... an inspection. Bare hand contact with food and a lack of protection from contamination were also among the restaurant's six sanitary violations, which totaled at 52 points. Owner Tanya Hira told DNAinfo that her business lost an estimated $10,000 each day it was closed -- that's a $50,000 loss. She attested that the adjacent construction projects caused the vermin, and that the closing was out of her control. Aria's now open for lunch as usual, but when we reached out to the restaurant, no one there wanted to speak about the damaging violations. [DNAinfo]

Seeing Double: 21 New YorkToronto's Momofuku Noodle Bar looks rather familiar. One of the undisputed joys of living in New York is the city's huge collection of unique, unimpeachable restaurants. But lately, more and more of... our favorite eating and drinking spots are opening new locations abroad. Last week, Saxon + Parole announced plans to open an outpost in Moscow. Azealia Banks - Yung Rapunxel (Teaser)

Hypebeast - 9 Apr 2013 04:46
Azealia Banks - Yung RapunxelThe latest delivery from Azealia Banks comes as a visual teaser for her latest single "Yung Rapunxel." Strung together by an erratic drum-pattern, punctuated with ghastly tribal samples, we can only... imagine the final visuals to be something of similar caliber. The teaser shows a deranged Azealia with eyes as lips - perhaps nodding at her propensity for speaking her mind - positioned in front of a black backdrop. Directed by Jam Sutton, the teaser plays off of the single's featured artwork and will no doubt be filled with suggestive, macabre symbols. Set to release on April 16, "Yung Rapunxel" will appear on the songstress' debut Broke With Expensive Taste LP. View the short above and let us know your thoughts below.

Opera is on some level a sporting event. High art, sure; but lots of its fans go to hear who will write a better piece or sing a better aria or simply to enjoy the sheer athletic ability of people who... can fill a 2,000-seat hall with their voices without a mike. Opera in concert only emphasizes the genre's sporting side. There are no sets here, and no costumes to interfere with the basic act of singing, and sound, and listening to the way one voice sounds against another, or against the voices in your inner ear.
