Ohio State football is about as big-time as it gets in college football. The Buckeyes routinely compete for conference championships, routinely haul in one of the best recruiting classes in the nation... and routinely sell out Ohio Stadium, a behemoth of an arena that seats 102,329 fans. Combine that with a highly lucrative television revenue deal with the Big Ten, and the Buckeyes athletic department's pocketbooks will essentially never be empty. So, naturally, Ohio State is likely to raise ticket prices. Here's more from the Columbus Dispatch: The school's Athletic Council will make a recommendation on Friday to the board of trustees on an increase in ticket prices. One possibility is an increase to $79 per general-public ticket, from $70, a rise of almost 13 percent. Also being considered...

When trades and free-agent signings are announced, almost everyone dismisses the phrase "pending a physical" without much thought, yet Mike Napoli's diagnosis of avascular necrosis (AVN) reminds us... that those physicals make up an important part of a contract. Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reported early Wednesday morning that Napoli reached a deal with the Boston Red Sox, but it is not the deal everyone originally expected last month. Napoli and the Red Sox first agreed to a three-year, $39 million deal in December pending a physical. However, following his diagnosis, Napoli signed a revised one-year, $5 million deal on Jan. 22--a deal that also includes $8 million in potential incentive bonuses. That means that Napoli has the same earning potential this year--$13 million--as his...

Chelsea's Twitter Is ActuallyA few moments ago, Deadspin posted a video of Chelsea's Eden Hazard kicking a ball boy in a Cup match against Swansea. After the ball rolled over the end line, the Swansea ball boy rolls over the ball... in what is presumably a time-wasting maneuver. Hazard then kicks him, and Chelsea's Twitter cannot believe he was red carded.

Despite Inter scoring another goal late in the first half -- Rodrigo Palacio is really good at getting those goals against Roma -- the first 45 minutes belonged to the home side. In the seventh... minute, Ivan Piris sent in a great cross from the right side, but Mattia Destro sent his volley high. Three minutes later, Samir Handanovic made his first save, off an easy header from Destro. But it wasn't easy for the Slovenian in the 13th minute. Piris provided another magnificent cross, and it was Alessandro Florenzi that got on the end of it this time. Handanovic was rooted in place as the header flew past, and Roma had their first goal. On the other end, the giallorossi were saved from an equalizer by the post, struck by Fredy Guarin in the 17th minute. Just a minute later, Andrea Ranocchia...

Arsenal 5-1 West Ham United |When Arsenal click as they did for 12 whirlwind minutes at the beginning of the second half, it can feel as if all of their problems, the well-documented angst and the soul-searching, are nothing more... than tricks of the imagination. In a game that they had to win, after the dispiriting Premier League losses to Manchester City and Chelsea, they started badly and left themselves needing to scramble up an incline, if not a mountain, after an early concession to Jack Collison. But Lukas Podolski pegged West Ham back before his team destroyed their rivals with a four-goal burst immediately after the interval. The composition of Arsenal's half-time brew might have to be tested. It was an awesome demonstration of their attacking potential and West Ham had no answer. Their bleak evening was...

Eden Hazard was shown a red card for kicking a ballboy on Wednesday. Quickly, here's some background. In the first leg of their League Cup semifinal tie against Swansea City, Chelsea shockingly lost... 2-0 at home, meaning they needed to win by two goals to force extra time in the return leg at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday. Swansea defended very well to keep Wednesday's score 0-0 -- thus keeping a two-goal lead -- and had Chelsea extremely frustrated when the ball rolled out for a goal kick in the 77th minute. The Swansea ballboy decided to waste time by refusing to give Hazard the ball when he ran over to retrieve that. That didn't go over well. GIF from @bubbaprog. Hazard will earn an automatic three-game suspension for getting sent off for violent conduct, and given that he lashed out...

During West Ham's match with Arsenal on Wednesday, defender Danny Potts suffered a scary collision and was taken off the field on a stretcher after several minutes on the ground. The news comes via... the London Evening Standard's James Olley: Daniel Potts down after an unfortunate collision. Doesn't look good - appears from here as though he is being given oxygen. #whufc -- James Olley (@JamesOlley) January 23, 2013 According to Olley, Potts was stretchered off to applause from the crowd at the Emirates, but it didn't appear as though the young man had moved since crashing to the ground. After he was taken off, there were 12 minutes of extra time added on, which goes to show you how long the medical staff tended to the budding star. The No. 1 hope here is obviously that Potts is OK. This is...
