At WrestleMania XXX, the impossible happened: Brock Lesnar defeated The Undertaker and ended his legendary streak. Talk about shocking. Having successfully fended off challenges from the likes of... Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Edge and CM Punk over the years, many believed Undertaker would keep his streak intact forever. And the idea that the star would lose to Brock Lesnar after such a lackluster and flat buildup seemed almost unthinkable. Ironically enough, Lesnar wasn't treated as anything like a real threat to The Streak in the weeks leading up to the event. Alas, the match was rather mediocre, too and not a patch on Undertaker's previous Match of the Year-caliber bouts. Maybe that explains why The Streak ended? The 49-year-old knows he can't go as a wrestler any more and wanted to put a...

Doug McDermott's trophy case is probably getting a little crowded at this point.  The Creighton superstar was named the Naismith Men's College Basketball Player of the Year on Sunday, according to... the official release. McDermott, who beat out finalists Nick Johnson of Arizona, Jabari Parker of Duke and Russ Smith of Louisville, led the country in scoring with 27.7 points per contest. He also added 7.1 rebounds per game and had a PER of 32.8, per Sports Reference, which was fourth-best in America. Following their 2-1 loss to the Reds on April 6, the Mets are 2-4 to start their 2014 season. But that is no reason for anyone to panic and think the Mets' season is likely to not end up well.... Baseball seasons are long and include 162 games. It takes a lot more than one week to judge the possibilities of each team having a winning record and maybe even contending for the postseason. There is more than enough time right now for the Mets to play better and possibly have their first winning record since 2008. Here are three reasons why the Mets can still turn into a good team this season.

Kevin Durant is slowly working his way toward being known as one of the greatest current players in the NBA. While he's still in a battle with players like LeBron James for the status of top player,... he's setting records that not even Michael Jordan achieved with his recent play, as Royce Young of CBSSports.com notes: NBA.com also reported the news on Twitter: NBA on ESPN provides a look at where Durant's streak puts him on the all-time list:  When Durant tied the record on Saturday, he did so in a loss against the Houston Rockets. Rather than gloating about the achievement, Durant was incensed about the dropping the game to former teammate James Harden, telling The Associated Press (h/t SI.com), "We lost the game that's all I'm worried about. I don't care. We lost." The record-clinching...

NCAA Officials Adamantly Opposed To One-And-Done

The Huffington Post - 7 Apr 2014 05:39
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- NCAA officials and Kentucky coach John Calipari at least agree on something: The one-and-done rule in college basketball needs to be revised. NCAA president Mark Emmert said... during his annual news conference Sunday that he is in "vocal opposition" to the rule established by the NBA and its union that requires players be at least one year removed from high school before declaring for the NBA draft. Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby went further, saying "the NFL and NBA have been irresponsible in not providing other legitimate opportunities for kids that really don't want to go to college." Calipari has said he favors a two-year period before players can declare for the NBA draft, even though his 2012 title team had three one-and-done players, and the team that he'll...

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- The NCAA president called an effort to unionize players a "grossly inappropriate" way to solve problems in college sports while insisting the association has plans to change... the school-athlete relationship. Mark Emmert said Sunday that the NCAA wants to allow the big conferences with moneymaking teams to write their own rules, and those changes could solve many athletes' complaints more effectively than unionization. "To be perfectly frank, the notion of using a union-employee model to address the challenges that exist in intercollegiate athletics is something that strikes most people as a grossly inappropriate solution to the problems," Emmert said at his annual news conference, held the day before college basketball's national championship. He said it would...

Kansas was on the ropes. Down five against Stanford with 21.5 seconds remaining, it appeared the Jayhawks would fail to make the second weekend of the NCAA tournament for the fourth time under coach... Bill Self. This being March, though, a month where games aren't over until there has been a buzzer beater or an official review, the Jayhawks still had hope. After inbounding the ball to Frank Mason, the guard dribbled up the left side of court and handed off to Conner Frankamp, who promptly drained a three to cut the Cardinal's lead to two.
