Detroit is out in Los Angeles for interleague play tonight, which means America's most valuable treasure Vin Scully has the opportunity to discuss some players he doesn't often see. MLB Names New Reliever AwardsNEW YORK (AP) -- Now that they're no longer receiving awards, Mariano Rivera and Trevor Hoffman are getting their names on some. Major League Baseball said Wednesday it created a "Mariano Rivera... American League Reliever of the Year Award" and a "Trevor Hoffman National League Reliever of the Year Award." Rivera, a 13-time All-Star, retired after last season with a record 652 saves. Hoffman, a seven-time All-Star, retired after the 2010 season and is second with 601 saves. Both spent their entire careers in one league. The new honors replaces MLB's "Delivery Man of the Year Award," which was given to one winner annually from 2005-13. It will be voted on by nine retired relievers, with Rivera and Hoffman joined by Hall of Famers Dennis Eckersley, Rollie Fingers, Rich Gossage and Bruce Sutter...

Fans watched the Michigan football team go through its final workout at Michigan Stadium, but those expecting a game left disappointed. Earlier in the week Brady Hoke had announced that the spring... “game” would consist of a typical practice followed by a scrimmage between the offense and defense. No score was kept and, in a bid to minimize potential injuries, special teams were not part of the proceedings. But for a fan base still smarting from last season’s 7-6 start, the chance to see Michigan back on the field was a welcome sight. Many were eager to see the new offense installed by Doug Nussmeier but instead saw some of the same problems that plagued the team last season—interceptions and a porous offensive line. Despite the limited format of the scrimmage, the performance of...

The Los Angeles Lakers lost in what's become all-too-typical fashion, getting blown out 145-130 to the Houston Rockets. Worse yet, this loss was a milestone of the worst sort for the Purple and Gold.... On a night when Steve Nash moved into third place among the NBA's all-time assists leaders, the Lakers set a mark of another sort. The franchise moved to Los Angeles in 1960, so yes, it's been a while. It went 25-50 its last season in Minneapolis. It's been a season Lakers fan would like to forget. Kobe Bryant played in just six games, and Steve Nash missed the vast majority of the season, instantly turning the season into more of a rebuilding effort than an attempt to make the playoffs. The lackluster effort has turned many Lakers fans away, at least from their TVs. Variety's Rick Kissell...

LeBron James Not Worried AboutThe Miami Heat can't seem to beat the Brooklyn Nets this season but that doesn't mean LeBron James is worried about them. After the Nets completed a four-game season sweep on Tuesday night, the... two-time NBA champ laughed off a question about them being the Heat's biggest threat in the Eastern Conference playoffs. "Get out of here," James responded with a smile. Before taking too much offense at his reaction, Nets players and fans should probably note that the question was posed by TNT's Craig Sager. A sideline reporter known for his wild sideline outfits, Sager has a history of playful exchanges with NBA stars. With their 88-87 win on Tuesday night, the Nets became the first team to beat the Heat four times in the same season since James took his talents to South Beach. All four games...
