Stocks pulled a U-turn Friday, swinging from session lows to modest gains on the day as President Obama met with congressional leaders at the White House to begin fiscal cliff negotiations. With a long road yet to go, and most observers skeptical of any type of grand compromise, the market bounce is at least as attributable to oversold conditions after a brutal 7-day stretch as any optimism for a deal in Washington.
