George Walker Slept Here: Parlor piano inspired career

Although neither of George Walker’s music-loving parents could play the instrument, they purchased a piano for the parlor of their home, this typical D.C. rowhouse on Sherman Avenue in Northwest Washington, in what is now considered Columbia Heights. Five-year-old George so delighted in banging on the keys that “Mother said, ‘Enough is enough. I’m going to find a teacher for you,’ ” Walker recalled. Read full article >>
