Verizon (VZ) announced that it lost $4.24 billion, or $1.48 per share, versus $2.02 billion, or 71 cents per share, in the same period last year. The loss included a $1.86 per share charge related to employee benefits and restructuring activities. Revenue increased by 5.7% to $30.05 billion. Analysts had forecast earnings of 50 cents per share on revenue of $29.83 billion.
