If Obamacare or some other aggressive program to expand private coverage cannot be made to work, the country will face a hard choice: accept that many Americans will go without healthcare coverage or accept a national healthcare system. Repealing the employer-provided healthcare exclusion might make sense in economic theory, but in the practical world, it would accelerate a day of reckoning on healthcare for which we are unprepared.
