In Spike Jonze’s new film, Her, out today, Theodore Twombly (played by a mustachioed Joaquin Phoenix) is a man of the not-so-distant future, who falls in love with an operating system named Samantha (voiced by Scarlett Johansson). She’s like a projection of Siri, conceivably with the capacity to feel, or at least process Twombly’s personal data and churn out compatible voice patterns that hum like intimacy.
