Much has been written about the paradox of labor in Southeast Asia – that is, the area’s large national populations suggest that the pool of available labor should be sufficient to meet industry demand. On the contrary, insufficient infrastructure, social expectations and poverty mean that Southeast Asia has a significantly higher ratio of unskilled to skilled labor. Consequently, the demand and competition for skilled labor remains high and is even acute in some sectors and professions.
