Rian Johnson boarding 'Star Wars' franchise as writer and director

LOS ANGELES - "Looper" writer-director Rian Johnson will write and direct "Star Wars: Episode VIII" and pen a treatment for Episode IX, a spokesperson for Johnson confirmed to the Los Angeles Times.
