(Science China Press) Toxic 'gutter oil,' made from waste cooking oil collected primarily from restaurants and sewage channels, threatens the public's health across China. Now scientists at the Dalian University of Technology propose, in a study published in the Chinese Science Bulletin, using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy to quickly identify this hazardous oil and halt its illegal infiltration of the food system.
