To entertain you the Tony-winning revival of "Pippin" at the National Theatre jumps through hoops, swings from trapezes and catches bodies flopping down from the heights. It's a circus on purpose, and the flashy acts of derring-do are remarkably right for reanimating the tuneful 1972 Bob Fosse-directed musical by the wunderkind Stephen Schwartz, whose "Wicked" triumph was still decades away.
