TV highlights: 'Happy New Year, Charlie Brown' on ABC

(All times eastern) Originally broadcast on New Year's Day 1986, "Happy New Year, Charlie Brown" (ABC at 8 p.m.) has the Peanuts gang throwing a party while Charlie struggles to get through Tolstoy's "War and Peace" and ends up missing everyone's surprise for him. Another cartoon short, titled "She's a Good Skate, Charlie Brown," follows the classic special, and it has Snoopy helping Peppermint Patty train for her first ice-skating competition.
