Review: Double bill at Met Opera, cinematic but misjudged

I'm all for reinterpreting opera. Set Mozart's "Nozze di Figaro" in a Park Avenue penthouse, offer a cartoony staging of Berg's "Wozzeck," pose the question of how "Hamlet" would look if Hamlet's father were, in fact, the bad guy, and I'm with you. What I'm not in favor of is forcing opera into an interpretation that doesn't quite fit -- as Mariusz Trelinski does in his double bill of "Iolanta" and "Bluebeard's Castle," which, after its scheduled premiere was cancelled due to the threat of snow,...
