My Morning Jacket continues to evolve and defy genre

Washington Post - 23 Jul 2015 23:21
My Morning Jacket's freewheeling musicality often defies genre, borrowing gleefully from psychedelic rock, folk and country to create a boundless sound that evokes the expansiveness of a jam band with the precision of a well-oiled machine. Frontman Jim James, who produced Preservation Hall Jazz Band's last album, often slips into a falsetto wail during extended riffs with fellow guitarist Carl Broemel. This creates a cathartic contrast that pulses through all of the Kentucky-based band's albums.
