Concert designed to blend best of pop and classical offers neither

If you want to win somebody over to piano playing, you play them Horowitz or Richter or Glenn Gould -- the best you can find. If you want to win them over to orchestra concerts, you take them to a vivid, dynamic performance. Unfortunately, on Friday night, the National Symphony Orchestra led a new audience to water but didn't actually give them much to drink.
