Tomorrow the Ziegfeld Theatre, the legendary 1,131-seat single-screen theater on West 54th Street, will close its doors. Built in 1969, it was named for Florenz Ziegfeld, Jr., the impresario who believed, wrote Vogue in 1943, "in the pretty power of lamé, feathers, white powder, furs, pearls, and enormous hats, worn by girls who knew how to walk with a cool, aristocratic air--almost naked." His Follies and "Girls," among whom were Louise Brooks and Paulette Goddard, became New York institutions...
