In 2006, Stephen Colbert was the featured entertainer at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, where he skewered everyone in the room. His satirical speech was cutting and spared no one, and it was greeted by a stony reception and tepid applause. Colbert, it seemed, had misjudged the crowd and bombed.
