Every three years, the National Portrait Gallery holds a competition meant to encourage "artists to explore the ever-evolving art of portraiture." The winners of the Outwin 2016 competition were announced today, and the results suggest a bit of a retrenchment from 2013, away from conceptual and non-traditional reformulations of the genre.
