Sometimes you just need to look at pretty stars. That image was taken by the Hubble Space Telescope back in 2009 (but just released recently), using the Advanced Camera for Surveys. It shows a region of the sky very near the center of the Milky Way galaxy, where stars are packed pretty closely together--think of them as city lights, and you see more when you look downtown*.
