China’s State Council has issued new regulations that call for the central government to grade the performance of different provinces, municipalities, and other local areas on their handling of food safety policy and incidents. As of mid-August, China’s National Food Safety Commission (NSFC), which is headed by a vice premier and includes other high-level officials, and its general office are overseeing an effort to review the food safety records of the localities each year.
