Leishmaniasis infection on the rise in US ecotourists, soldiers

(Infectious Diseases Society of America) Leishmaniasis, a parasitic infection transmitted through the bite of the sand fly, is seen more and more often in the United States, due to ecotourism and soldiers stationed in Iran and Afghanistan.New diagnostic tests and effective treatments should be used to identify and treat leishmaniasis, according to new guidelines released by the IDSA and ASTMH.
