Blane Nordahl committed his first burglary in 1983. He was a high-school dropout who had turned to drugs and alcohol, and then joined the Navy, only to be discharged for desertion. At the beginning of his criminal career, he worked with other burnout types, breaking into houses in the afternoon and stealing any old thing that appeared to be of value.
