(RAND Corporation) While many medical strategies have been shown helpful in treating opioid and alcohol abuse, the approaches are often most available in specialized treatment centers that are costly and limited in number. A new study finds that combining substance abuse treatment with regular medical care can successfully treat people with opioid or alcohol addiction, providing an option that might expand access to treatment and lower costs.
