New strategy against vascular disease in diabetes

A peptide called S597, given to mice with metabolic syndrome, reduced their high blood sugar levels and slowed the growth of lesions in their blood vessel walls. It appears to do so by keeping the production of inflammatory white cells in check. The finding suggest a new approach to explore in research to reduce the high risk of heart attack and stroke in people with diabetes.
