Japanese Probe Drops Hopping, Shoebox-Sized Lander on Asteroid Ryugu

A shoebox-sized hopping lander called the Mobile Asteroid Surface Scout (MASCOT) separated from its mothership, Japan's Hayabusa2 spacecraft, at 9:57 p.m. EDT today (Oct. 2) and headed for the surface of the big asteroid Ryugu.
