Engineered safety switch curbs severe side effects of CAR-T immunotherapy

(UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center) UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center researchers have demonstrated that an experimental safety switch incorporated as part of a chimeric antigen receptor-modified T cell therapy (CAR-T) was effective in reducing the severity of a neurotoxic side effect that occurred in a patient treated with CAR-T therapy for an aggressive form of leukemia.
