Vans' quintessential checkerboard pattern has been one of the brand's key design pieces since the late '70s, and it's been most prominently displayed on the Slip-On -- a shoe first made famous by Sean Penn's lovable slacker Spicoli in 1982's Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
