From an Independent perspective, dealing with shoplifters is relatively rare but it is on the increase. It is far easier for experienced Indies to spot the signs very quickly, so any potential theft can be stopped before it was going to happen. Every Indie will have their own way of dealing with things and we have ours. Larger stores have larger issues, especially those that refuse to have security staff therefore making their store even more attractive to shoplifters.
