In January I wrote that the University of Texas could make a $23 million mistake by signing head football coach Mack Brown to a four-year contract extension. I based my argument on the fact that Brown, already among the highest-paid college football coaches, had struggled to produce competitive teams in recent seasons. The timing of his extension was also questionable because his existing contract ran through 2016, meaning there was no need for an immediate extension.
