Malaysia lawmakers approve detention without trial

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) -- Malaysian lawmakers have approved legal amendments that opponents fear could be abused by authorities to hold people without trial for years and negate the prime minister's pledge to protect human rights.
