The U.S. Needs "Enemies"

Here is a supposition, the U.S. needs ---enemies---. W/o enemies the U.S. could not justify the bloated defense spending, deploy over a 1000 military bases worldwide & have surveillance practices targeting everyone in America & the world. It makes no difference if the enemy poses a real threat as did the USSR in the cold war or now the fabricated war on terror invented by Bush; a never ending war against a never ending enemy.
