By Debra Donston-Miller If there is any task more difficult than letting an employee go, it just might be giving an employee a promotion. Why? Because when you promote someone, there are sure to be plenty of other people who were qualified for--and expecting--the same spot. Losing out on a promotion is tough for anyone, but high-level employees passed over for a promotion just may pass through your company's doors--never to return.
