A leading Venezuelan opposition figure is to face charges over an alleged plot to assassinate the country's president, Nicolas Maduro. Maria Corina Machado, a former congresswoman, was ordered by the country's chief prosecutor Wednesday to appear in court on Dec. 3 to be formally charged. Machado, along with three other people who are the subject of arrest orders in connection to the alleged plot, have denounced the allegations as an attempt by Venezuela's government to silence its critics.
