China can’t feed itself anymore. This fact is underscored by last year’s data on food imports: the Middle Kingdom took in 25 million tons of corn and wheat from abroad, a 22% increase over 2013. Most of this imported food came from the U.S. In addition to buying large quantities of grain from abroad, China has also had contracted for increasingly large deliveries of soybeans, fresh fruit, milk powder, pork and chicken from foreign sources.
