Republic Airways filed for bankruptcy Thursday, citing a lack of pilots to keep it solvent. If you've never heard of Republic Airways, there's a good reason: American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines use Republic as a feeder carrier for smaller flights, using Republic aircraft and crew to operate flights but predominantly retaining the mainline carrier's brand on aircraft and marketing material.
