Flickr/Joe Lewis Alarm bells for the US stock market are getting louder. Almost 8% of the companies in the S&P 500 are trading at 52-week lows, the most since February 2016, according to data compiled by Bank of America Merrill Lynch. That's a bigger portion of the index than was seen during the US election in early November, or the period surrounding the UK's decision to leave the European Union, which saw the S&P 500 plunge more than 5% in just two days.
