Government orders inspection of Liverpool council following arrests

Robert Jenrick says measure necessary after arrests of mayor Joe Anderson and council officers The government has ordered an emergency inspection of Liverpool city council following the arrest of the mayor, Joe Anderson, and a number of council officers in a corruption inquiry. Robert Jenrick, the communities and local government secretary, said he had ordered the inspection to get "direct, independent assurance that the council is compliant with its best value duty".
